Consider a future time, such as when you are 70 years old. Ask yourself what you want to achieve by then and why. Then you can work your way back. What do you have to do and when to achieve your main life goals?
A Wall Street Journal obituary writer named James Hagerty wrote an article about his obituary. He explains how he wrote obituaries and that he was writing his own. He wrote that he always tried to answer three questions about someone’s life.
- What the person was trying to do
- Why
- How it worked out
These are good questions to ask yourself. What do I want to do? Why? How is it working out?
Once you have your main goals and when you want to accomplish them on paper, write down what you need to do to achieve them. You should have the following;
- Long-term life goals
- Shorter-term goals to achieve each of the longer-term goals
Once you have these in place, you can begin to develop a 7-year plan to achieve your short-term goals. Do the same thing here: What do you want to accomplish in 7 years? What do you need to do to make that happen?
You need to break up the 7-year plan into yearly goals. The yearly goals need to be broken up into monthly objectives, and then weekly and daily tasks.
The main thing is to begin with the end in mind and begin taking action today.
Moses, one of the great leaders of all time, prayed: “So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12, English Standard Version)
I will post life plan resources here.
