In your free time, you should strive to find activities that interest you. Here are some ideas:
- Making robots
- Building and racing drones
- Cooking
- Making healthy candy
- Sailing and navigating
- Flying
- Teaching and preaching
- Cinematography
- Debating
- Medical research
- Lifesaving
- Climbing mountains
- Political campaign internships
- Sports and coaching
- Working on and with machines
- Work in a business that interests you
These are just ideas. The key is to experiment with various activities to develop your awareness, knowledge, and skills. High school is the ideal time to do this before you have a family and a full-time job.
If you want a more detailed plan for achieving this, I recommend How to Be a High School Superstar by Cal Newport. (Note: Newport shows how top students get into top colleges, but his plan is helpful even if you are not planning for college.)
If you like working with your hands and science-based topics, Smarter Every Day is a great resource.
